Maui Ultra Fins teamrider Philip Koester has won the first event of the PWA-Wavetour 2011!
Following his second place last year, he could now defeat Victor Fernandez twice in the finals of the single and double elimination with unbelievable power.
A big crowd watched Philip starting off into the final: Ankle-dry double loop! At the end of the heat, he also went for the triple but the wind was blowing too strong so he had to let go after two rotations.
Throughout the worldcup, Philip showed incredible jumps and sensational waveriding usingMaui Ultra Fins X-Twins.
Philip Koester: "I feel amazing, I couldn’t feel any better. The heat was really fun, the conditions were a little different in Pozo today but the wind was really strong. I was on my 3.7, I tried a pushloop forward and crashed really hard and hurt my knee, I also tried a triple at the end and crashed that but overall it was a brilliant final."
Robby Swift finished 7th and Florian Jung 25th. Congratulations to all Maui Ultra Fins teamriders for a most radical performance!
Philip is leading the PWA tour after this victory. Good luck to Maui Ultra Fins team riders for the event on Tenerife and the other tour stops!

Martin van Meurs (NED-62)
Point-7 is very pleased to announce the addition of a new International Team rider for the upcoming season.
Martin van Meurs (NED-62) from the Netherlands will join the team, focusing the Black Power on the GPS-speedsurfing rankings. Martin has a long history in speed sailing as being the first to hit the elusive 50 knots but also with development and will join the P7 Test Team working on the new sails.
Martin: I am looking forward to an exciting season with new roads to travel. When I read about Point-7’s new design process I got very interested in the 2011 series. After the P7 crew informed me of their plans, we had some nice discussions about the future and here I am - a new P7 team rider ready to help make the sails even better, but first and foremost to show the speedsurfing movement just how fast the new sails really are. As always, the outright GPS windsurfing record will be my main focus, but I am equally looking forward to sailing in moderate wind speeds and race with and against all the other GPS riders out there in the World. After all, racing on an 8.6 is just as much GPS speedsurfing, as blasting in wind gusts up to 60 knots. As soon as I have put the sails on the water I will be available for questions
Andrea Cucchi: It’s a real pleasure to have Martin joining our international team. We as riders both have great passion for the sport and with Martin’s enthusiasm and focus on GPS speedsailing I'm sure our development program will really benefit from his input. With the new 2011 AC-1 Martin is already set to have an interesting season ahead of him!

Point-7 BLACK ICE, winter windsurfing sail range
Having followed the recent growth within ice / winter windsurfing over the last years, Point-7 have on suggestion from www.hiberna.lv winter windsurf boards developed a totally new windsurfing sail range; The BLACK ICE!
The sail range is developed specifically for the conditions you encounter when sailing on a rock hard smooth surface where a set of completely new parameters come into play.. The BLACK ICE range features a very special outline where the base of the sail has been kept very low, making it possible for the rider to close the gap between sail and board without having to rake the sail far backwards to feel comfortable. The leech has been kept almost closed as there is also very little need for the mast to absorb chop or waves but only the unevenness of the ice. This combination gives the sail a healthy amount of back hand pressure and good power also in light winds. The luff curve and mast sleeve is based on the AC-1 2011 sail range ensures perfect rotation of the sail body and stability in a wide wind range. All sails are custom made in Italy and can be made specifically to client specifications both in sail size and area of use.

Point-7 and Challenger Sails
PRESSRELEASE
19th November 2010
Point-7 and Challenger Sails: a new windsurfing sail development initiative.
High performance windsurfing equipment, capable of winning at the pinnacle level of the sport, can only be developed through a professional loft structure, working with a team of professional designers, skilled technicians and a highly qualified test team.
Andrea Cucchi (Point-7) and Claudio Badiali (Challenger sails) have both decided to unite their company’s strengths through a collaboration of the Point-7 Test Team and Head of development together with the Challenger Loft Design Team. Challenger sails have a unique structure in Europe to develop and build prototype sails overnight utilising sophisticated design programs, multiple CNC cutters and highly skilled staff of professional craftsmen; which together with the Point-7 team will be able to produce some truly mind blowing development.
This cooperation is not a merger of the two brands but a strengthening of their individual company programs and products. This new relationship will produce faster and higher quality-orientated development paths for both brands, in their range of products.
Andrea Cucchi, “the engineering structure that Challenger has here in Europe is a dream for any windsurfing brand. The opportunity to design a total new sail concept in a matter of hours and then testing it the next morning on the water is what will allow our brand to push forward and stay at the forefront of development. With no limitation in the sail materials we can access, including customised battens and custom quivers to be tested continuously, this is going to be really exciting for all of us; having a large team of professional designers and builders sweat to death to build windsurfing dreams and reach our goals.”
Claudio Badiali, “Point-7 has showed in the last years an exponential growth in a market at a moment that the world was facing crisis. Andrea was capable of fine tuning race-winning products with a unique style that windsurfers have appreciated. Their services and customer service have brought satisfaction and a real community feeling in windsurfing. A great team that I will have immense pleasure in supporting with our sail loft structure and sail designers Mario and Francesco Mainero and of course myself, to bring this incredible joint venture to have both Challenger and Point-7, fighting for top winning results and great products for everyone to blast and dominate the world’s waters.”

Initiating from September 2010, Point-7 will move away from supporting a 12month product cycle and in the future launch new sails and model updates, exclusively based on product improvement and market demand.
This will mean than any sail model can remain, for a period longer than 12 months, without undergoing any optical or structural changes. Point-7 will base their new and updated product releases solely on true structural development. Not new marketing gimmicks or facelifts to earlier sail models, but a development program that will allow the end user to experience the real difference and progress achieved. Only Point-7’s AC-1 slalom and formula sail will continue to be developed and upgraded every year for the forthcoming racing seasons.
This new strategy is intended promote intense development in new products as well as to ensure the value of its products.

Adam Lewis K-516
Upcoming British wave-sailor Adam Lewis has joined the Point-7 international team and will also assist with the development of Point-7 wave sails. Adam who is located at the Official Test Centre on Tenerife, have been training at this great location to perfect his skills and is now more than just ready to show of his talent at both BWA and PWA competitions, for which he will be using the Point-7 Swell wave sail.
Adam Lewis ‘ I’m really happy to be on the Point-7 team. It’s a new brand with great ideas, great sails and motivation. I hope I can contribute to them. Working at the OTC has given me the opportunity to test all of the sails from every brand and find out not just what I want from a sail but also what you, the end user wants from a sail. I’m really excited to put what I’ve learnt into the Point-7 wave range and am very motivated to prove what they can do in future Competitions.’
Andrea Cucchi ‘Very talented and lots of style in his wave sailing, powerful and aggressive in his jumps. That was what impressed us the first time seeing him out on the water at our winter headquarters on Tenerife. Having just passed the age of 20, we are sure that he will not only be a key player to our wave development program, but that he will also bring home some really good results at competitions’. If you plan to visit the OTC centre, make sure you catch up with Adam so that he can let you try our original black wave sails.’

Pascal Toselli FR-916
A rising top international rider has entered the dark side of windsurfing.
Pascal Toselli aged 24 is another young rider ready to take the new AC-1 2010 to the race fields. Pascal normally living in Marseille, is now spending this winter in Tenerife with the rest of the P7 team testing new sails. Team Captain Andrea Cucchi says; It’s a real pleasure to have Pascal on our test team. Hard working rider and very pleasant person. He’s helped out a lot during the latest testing of the final AC-1.
